1 Getting Started

Welcome to the 3D Print Calculator Pro! This advanced calculator helps you accurately price your 3D prints by considering all costs, materials, and business factors.

Quick Start:

  1. Go to the Calculator tab
  2. Add your materials and weights
  3. Enter your print time
  4. Set your profit margin
  5. Click Calculate to see your pricing

2 Basic Calculator

Print Time

Enter the total print time in hours. This is used to calculate electricity costs.

Tip: Use the "Estimate Time" button to automatically calculate based on material weight (approximately 20g per hour).

Profit Margin

Set your desired profit margin as a percentage. This determines how much profit you make on top of your costs.

  • 150% - Conservative pricing (1.5x cost)
  • 200% - Standard pricing (2x cost) - Default
  • 300% - Premium pricing (3x cost)

You can use the slider or type directly. Quick buttons are available for common margins.

Shipping Service

Select your shipping method. Prices are pre-configured for UK Royal Mail and Evri services.

Choose "Custom" to enter your own shipping price.

3 Multi-Material Support

This calculator supports multiple materials in a single print, perfect for multi-color prints or prints using different materials for different parts.

Adding Materials:

  1. Click "Add Material" button
  2. Select material type (PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, or Custom)
  3. Enter the weight in grams
  4. For custom materials, enter price per gram
  5. Repeat for each material in your print

Selecting from Library:

Instead of manually entering materials, you can select from your saved Material Library:

  1. Click "Select from Library" button
  2. Choose a material from the modal
  3. The material will be added with its saved price
  4. Enter the weight you're using

Note: The total weight of all materials is displayed at the bottom. Each material's cost is calculated separately and summed together.

4 Advanced Mode PRO

Advanced Mode unlocks additional cost factors for professional pricing. Login required to access.

Advanced Cost Fields:

Printer Hourly Rate

Cost per hour of printer operation (depreciation, maintenance, etc.)

Setup Time

Time spent preparing the printer (minutes)

Post-Processing Time

Time spent on finishing (sanding, painting, etc.) in minutes

Packaging Time

Time spent packaging the item (minutes)

Labour Rate

Your hourly labour rate (£/hour)

Failure Risk

Percentage of prints that fail (adds cost buffer)

VAT

Enable VAT calculation (20% UK standard rate, adjustable)

Packaging Cost

Fixed cost for packaging materials (£)

Tip: Advanced Mode settings are automatically saved and restored when you return to the calculator.

5 Platform Fees

Automatically calculate and deduct platform fees from your selling price. This shows you the actual amount you'll receive after fees.

Available Platforms:

Etsy

6.5% + £0.20 listing fee

eBay

12.8% final value fee

Amazon

15% referral fee

Shopify

2.9% + 30p per transaction

Custom Platform:

Select "Custom" to enter your own fee structure:

  • Percentage fee (e.g., 5%)
  • Fixed fee (e.g., £0.50)

6 Calculation History

Save and manage all your calculations for easy reference and comparison.

Saving Calculations:

  1. Complete a calculation in the Calculator tab
  2. Click "Save Calculation" button
  3. Enter a name for your calculation (e.g., "Red PLA Vase")
  4. Click "Save"

Loading Calculations:

  1. Go to the History tab
  2. Find your saved calculation
  3. Click "Load" button
  4. All settings, materials, and values will be restored
  5. The calculation will automatically run to show results

Exporting History:

Export your entire calculation history as CSV for analysis in Excel or Google Sheets:

  1. Go to History tab
  2. Click "Export CSV" button
  3. File will download with all calculation data

7 Presets

Create reusable calculation templates for common print configurations. Perfect for standard products you print regularly.

Creating a Preset:

  1. Set up your calculator with desired materials, time, and settings
  2. Click "Save Preset" button
  3. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Standard PLA Print")
  4. Click "Save Preset"

Loading a Preset:

  1. Click "Load Preset" button in Calculator tab, OR
  2. Go to Presets tab
  3. Click "Load" on the preset you want
  4. All settings will be restored
  5. You can then adjust weights or other values as needed

Use Case: Create presets for your most common products (e.g., "Phone Case", "Keychain", "Miniature") and load them quickly when pricing new orders.

8 Material Library

Build a library of your materials with prices, vendors, and notes. Makes it easy to select materials when calculating.

Adding Materials:

  1. Go to Library tab
  2. Click "Add Material" button
  3. Enter material details:
    • Name: e.g., "PLA Red", "PETG Clear"
    • Price per gram: Your cost per gram
    • Vendor: Where you bought it (optional)
    • Color: Material color (optional)
    • Notes: Any additional info (optional)
    • Initial Stock: Starting inventory amount (optional)
  4. Click "Save Material"

Editing Materials:

Click the "Edit" button (pencil icon) on any material card to update its information.

Using Library Materials:

In the Calculator tab, click "Select from Library" to quickly add materials with their saved prices.

9 Inventory Tracking

Track how much material you have left. The calculator automatically deducts used material after each calculation.

Managing Inventory:

  1. Go to Library tab
  2. Click the "Manage Inventory" button (box icon) on any material
  3. Choose an action:
    • Add Stock: Increase current amount (e.g., received new shipment)
    • Set Stock: Replace current amount with new value
    • Reset Stock: Set to zero
  4. Enter the amount in grams
  5. Click "Update Stock"

Automatic Deduction:

When you calculate a print, the calculator automatically deducts the material used from your inventory.

Only materials from your Library are tracked. Default materials (PLA, PETG, etc.) need to be added to the library first.

Stock Status Indicators:

OUT Out of stock (0g remaining)
LOW Low stock (less than 100g remaining)
OK Stock is healthy

Bulk Stock Management:

Click "Bulk Add Stock" in the Library tab to quickly manage inventory for multiple materials.

11 Advanced Analytics Dashboard

The Analytics Dashboard provides comprehensive insights into your 3D printing business, including revenue tracking, cost analysis, and material usage. You can upload Etsy statements or other CSV files to automatically import sales data.

Statement Management

Uploading Statements

  1. Click the "Upload Statement" button in the Analytics tab
  2. Enter a descriptive name for your statement (e.g., "January 2026 Etsy Sales")
  3. Select your CSV file (Etsy statements or calculator exports)
  4. Choose whether to "Include in Analytics" (checked by default)
  5. Click "Upload" to process the file

💡 Tip: Name statements by month/year for easy organization (e.g., "January 2026", "Q1 2026")

Including/Excluding Statements

Each uploaded statement appears in the "Uploaded Statements" section with an "Included" or "Excluded" button:

  • Included (green) - Calculations from this statement appear in analytics
  • Excluded (gray) - Calculations are hidden from analytics but not deleted

Use this to compare different time periods or exclude test data from your reports.

Deleting Statements

Click the delete button (🗑️) on any statement to remove it and all its calculations. This action cannot be undone, so make sure to export your data first if needed.

Sum of all selling prices before fees and costs

Average selling price per calculation

Total Fees Paid

Platform transaction and processing fees

Revenue minus fees, costs, and expenses

Total Shipping Costs

Postage labels and shipping expenses (includes shop-level shipping)

Total Marketing Costs

Etsy Ads and promotional expenses (includes shop-level marketing)

Materials, electricity, and other production expenses

Visual Analytics

Cost Breakdown Chart

A doughnut chart showing the distribution of all costs:

  • Materials - Total material costs
  • Electricity - Power consumption costs
  • Shipping - All shipping costs (per-order + shop-level)
  • Platform Fees - Transaction and processing fees
  • VAT - Value Added Tax on fees
  • Marketing - Etsy Ads and promotional costs (per-order + shop-level)

Only categories with values > 0 are displayed. Hover over segments to see exact amounts.

Material Usage Chart

A bar chart showing material consumption:

  • Displays materials from manual calculations and Etsy imports
  • Shows total weight used per material type
  • Sorted by usage (most used first)
  • Hover to see weight and cost information

For Etsy imports, material data is extracted from matched presets or estimated.

Etsy Statement Import

The system automatically detects and processes Etsy statement CSV files. Here's what gets imported:

Sales Data:
  • Product names and order numbers
  • Selling prices (gross revenue)
  • Net amounts (after Etsy fees)
  • Transaction dates
Costs Tracked:
  • Transaction & processing fees
  • VAT on fees
  • Shipping costs (per-order + shop-level)
  • Marketing costs (Etsy Ads + shop-level)

Smart Matching: The system matches Etsy product names with your presets to automatically calculate material costs and print times. If no preset matches, it uses estimated percentages.

Data Management

Export CSV

Export all calculations to a CSV file for backup or external analysis

Reset Analytics

Clears all calculation history from both database and local storage. Use with caution!

Database Sync

When logged in, all data is automatically synced to the cloud. Analytics persist across devices and browser sessions.

Important: Analytics only show calculations from statements marked as "Included". Manual calculations (not from statements) are always included. Use the toggle buttons to control which statements appear in your reports.

Pricing Strategy:

  • Start with 200% profit margin and adjust based on market demand
  • Use Advanced Mode for professional/commercial prints
  • Always account for platform fees when selling online
  • Consider failure rate for complex prints

Material Management:

  • Add all your materials to the Library with accurate prices
  • Track inventory to avoid running out mid-print
  • Update material prices when you buy new stock
  • Use presets for products you print regularly

  • Save calculations for all customer orders

  • Press Enter in modal input fields to submit

Q: Do I need to login to use the calculator?

A: Basic calculator features work without login. Advanced Mode requires login to access professional cost fields.

Q: Where is my data stored?

A: All data is stored locally in your browser (localStorage). It stays on your device and is not sent to any server.

Q: Can I export my data?

A: Yes! You can export individual calculations or your entire history as CSV files from the History tab.

Q: How accurate is the print time estimation?

A: The estimation is based on average print speed (~20g/hour). For accurate pricing, always use actual print times from your slicer.

Q: Can I use this for multiple printers?

A: Yes! Create different presets for different printers, or adjust the printer hourly rate in Advanced Mode for each calculation.
